An official MWM "COMMUNITY and PRESS BRIEFING" will be held
The May 2, 2009 Briefing will mark the actual day (in 1973) where an incident occurred that left Assata Shakur severely wounded (shot twice) and Bro. Zyad Malik Shakur killed and a police officer fatally wounded. Assata was tortured while in custody, the charges trumped up and the trial a fiasco, Concerns around this and more will be addressed and documentation made available.

The Briefing will also provide information regarding the launching of the Black Women's Defense League's "Hands Off Assata" and "Millions 4 Assata" (M4A) Education & Freedom Project and Petition Campaign which will officially begin in July 2009, nationally, and then internationally in November 2009 at the (African People and Allies Self-Determination and Justice Week)

In view of the latest developments regarding US and Cuban relations, it is very important that the world is made aware of the history and facts as to why Sis. Assata had to be given political asylum and why the bounty was raised to a million dollars and now the maneuvers to have her extradited, etc.
